Social Justice

Social Justice is a key component of your WSSU experience.  Our students actively engage in social justice causes.

NBA star and WSSU student Chris Paul teamed up with the Student Government Association to coordinate a highly-successful March to the Polls.

The WSSU Justice Studies program created the Ronnie Long Project which fought for the release and exoneration a man wrongly-convicted of a crime. With the help of WSSU students, Mr. Long walked away from prison a free man in 2020.

I think for me, during this particular time, not only because I'm enrolled currently Winston Salem State, but given the magnitude of the election and everything that's going on right now, sort of felt a responsibility. And I mean, it's not a matter of can or should, you know, I mean, I wanted to, and I think for me, it's always even just good to be home.

Be able to hear and be a part of this. I think that something that's bigger than me and to engage especially, I hate saying the word young people because I think of myself as a young person, but for these college students and stuff who might not necessarily know how important their vote is to come out here show them.
